If you’ve never taken a BMTC Volvo to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) before, here’s what actually happens on the day, from boarding to drop-off.

Before you leave

Find your nearest route on the route & stop search or the how to reach the airport page. Note your boarding stop and the bus’s scheduled time — Vayu Vajra buses run on a fixed timetable, not a live tracker, so treat the listed time as approximate and arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Boarding

Wave the bus down clearly at your stop — drivers won’t always stop at every listed point unless flagged, especially at quieter intermediate stops. Have small change or your UPI app ready; most conductors accept cash and UPI, some routes also take cards.

Luggage

Regular check-in luggage (one or two bags, standard suitcase size) travels free in the space under the seats or the overhead area — there’s no separate luggage fee on Vayu Vajra services. Keep valuables and documents with you rather than in stowed bags, same as you would on any shared transport.

During the ride

Journey time depends heavily on your starting point and time of day — check your specific route’s page for a realistic estimate, and build in extra buffer if you’re travelling during morning or evening peak traffic. The bus terminates at the airport’s designated bus bay, a short walk from the terminal entrance.

Coming back

The same routes run in reverse from the airport back into the city. Look for the Vayu Vajra bus bay signage at the arrivals level, or check your route’s page for the return pickup point — it’s usually the same stop name as your drop-off.

Quick tips

• Buses run round the clock on the busier routes, so a very early or late flight isn’t a problem — just check your specific route’s first/last timing.
• Fares are fixed and posted at the boarding point; no surge pricing, unlike ride-hailing apps.
• If your route runs infrequently, it’s worth checking the timetable the night before rather than assuming there’s a bus every few minutes.
